The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre - Real Casa de la Moneda will release in 2023 a 1 oz. gold coin with the image, on the reverse, of another animal representative of Spain, in this case a Carthusian horse. The Carthusian Horse is not a distinct equine breed, but an offspring of the pure Spanish horse and is considered the purest breed in existence, with one of the oldest genealogical books in the world. The Carthusian lineage has its origins in the Jerez monastery of La Cartuja, which since 1484 and for at least three and a half centuries became the epicenter of the breeding of an elite of Andalusian horses and home to one of the most famous and appreciated stud farms in the world. The maximum mintage is 12,000 pieces. The obverse depicts an image of the "columnario", the unmistakable symbol of the historic Spanish silver coin that enjoys worldwide recognition within the numismatic culture. It also includes a quadruple latent image created and patented as a security system by our CECA.
